Pros and Cons

Let’s get the pros and cons covered upfront so you can decide if you need to read further into my detailed DreamFoam Mattress review.

Of the 772 reviews from customers who were verified as genuine purchasers of the DreamFoam Ultimate Dreams mattress on, 83% were positive about the product.

  • Hypoallergenic and antimicrobial
  • Can select from 4 standard firmness style or have it customized
  • Great for couple becasue motion transfer is minimized with the Talalaly latex
  • Affordable because of DreamFoam’s partnership with Amazon and factory-direct shipping.
  • Made in the USA
  • 10 year warranty
  • Breathable mattress cover and latex comfort layer so that the top half of the bed lets the air circulate, keeping you cooler than a 100% memory foam mattress.

Here’s a summary of the critical feedback from the reviews that I read:

  • Can’t try before you buy when buying from That means if you select a firmness level that you don’t find comfortable, you need to ship the mattresses back to DreamFoam in Arizona. After you purchase this mattress, Chuck from customer service will call you about the best firmness level for you. Be sure to share with Chuck everything that will impact your choice like the preferred sleeping position (back, side or stomach) of you and your partner; your weight and the weight of your partner; do you and your partner toss and turn alot when sleeping? All this information will ensure that your mattress doesn’t sag prematurely.
  • The mattress did not fully expand after unpacking it from the box. Under the warranty, you are covered if the mattress does not fully expand to the stated width, depending if you buy the queen, king etc.
  • Some people said the mattress was hot to sleep on. If you want a mattress protector, DreamFoam strongly recommends you buy one that has a breathable fabric, that way air can still circulate through the bamboo cover and the latex layer of your DreamFoam mattress. As this mattress is hypoallergenic and antimicrobial, perhaps you don’t need a mattress protector?
  • Can’t flip the mattress from top to bottom. However, you can rotate the mattress from side to side.

Is This Mattress Safe?

What do the certifications mean to you?

The memory foam core inside the DreamFoam Ultimate Dreams has a CertiPUR-US seal of approval on the foam used in its production.

This seal means that a strict quality assessment has been carried out by an independent third party in the U.S.A. looking at what’s inside the foam, how durable is the foam, how does the foam perform and what emissions come from the foam. For the sake of your long-term health, if you are looking to buy any type of memory foam mattress, please ensure it has the CertiPUR-US seal.

What does this seal really mean to your health? The bottom line is that this seal reduces the potential toxins in your bedroom. certi pur us 3certi pur us 3The high-density base foam and Talalay Latex foam make this mattress both hypoallergenic and antimicrobial. Those with allergies or skin sensitivities will find great relief in this mattress.

The latex inside this mattress has an  Oeko-Tex certification. This means this part of the mattress does not contain any chemicals that would harm human health.

Is This DreamFoam Mattress Breathable?

Talalay latex is more breathable than memory foam because it has holes through it. Look at the image below. The left image shows how the little squares hop around when air is blown through latex. You can view the holes in the latex. The right-hand side image shows air being pumped through memory foam (denser and less porous) where the little squares don’t move.

The 1″ Bamboo cover is more absorbent (up to four times more) and softer than a cotton cover.

The bamboo material is soft to touch. It also transfers the heat of your body away from the top of the mattress into the dense foam and away from you. This means that the mattress does not become a furnace while you sleep, but rather helps you keep cool all night long. As a result, those hot summer nights will be easier to sleep through!

Are There Any Smells Associated with this Mattress?

As with any new memory foam mattress, you will experience some “new smell” when you first get your mattress. This phenomenon is called “gassing off” and is a part of the life of a memory foam mattress. That “gassy” smell comes down to 2 factors:

  1. The material inside the mattress; and
  2. The length of time the mattress was wrapped in the packaging.

Memory foam mattress made with Talalay latex will smell within the first 24-48 hours of unpacking it. But this material has a reduced “gassing off” effect compared to other models, so it shouldn’t be that noticeable.

A note about smell of the mattress

DreamFoam only packs their mattresses when they are ready to ship to you directly from the factory. Their products won’t sit in cargo holds for a long duration. These factors lessen the time your mattress will spend being wrapped in packaging for transport and hygiene. For me, that;s a big plus to consider in the DreamFoam Mattress review.

I recommend that after you unpack your new mattress you should lay it out on a flat surface and let it “air out” for 24 to 48 hours to let all the odors naturally evaporate before putting any bedding on the mattress.

The Support Inside This Mattress

What are the layers inside this mattress made of?

This mattress is 10 inches thick in total. It’s made up of 3 separate layers.

The cover

Around the outside of this 10-inch mattress is a bamboo cover. It is made from 100% biodegradable material.

It’s 1.5 inches thick.

It is soft and plush to touch because the cover is quilted. This cover is so soft and durable that you will not need an additional mattress cover to have a great night’s sleep.

Comfort layer

Beneath the bamboo cover is a 3-inch layer of Talalay Latex foam. The latex inside this DreamFoam mattress will conform to your body’s shape perfectly to relieve pressure from your back and support all the individual contours of your body.

Latex is derived from rubber trees. Talalay Latex is one kind of latex that is used when manufacturing a memory foam mattress. The term “Talalay” comes from the name of the inventor who developed the process of forming rubber into molded pieces, Anselm Talalay. The process uses real rubber trees to create a rubber base which is then enclosed in a mold and vacuumed free of air. The process creates a foam rubber that is soft to the touch, is lightweight, and highly durable. If you would like to know more about the manufacturing process for Talalay Latex, click here.

The foam core

Beneath the Talalay latex foam is 6 inches of high-density base foam core. This foam is called convoluted foam or egg create foam.

This core provides the stability to the Talalay latex to support your body while also increasing air flow and decreasing heat.

Combining latex and memory foam – does it work?

The one possible downside to high-density memory foam is that it can be difficult to roll over or move around. This is because of the latex foam forms to the contours of your body so much so, that you tend to “sink in” to the mattress. Whilst that may be considered a negative, on the plus side, the latex foam is also what gives you such a comfortable and supportive night’s sleep. So, you have to make some trade-off between comfort and mobility. However, most people don’t find the effort to move is that taxing, so this is really only a concern if you already have mobility issues.

The different firmness styles

You have the choice of four preset firmness styles with this model of DreamFoam Mattress:

  • Firm: A firmness that will not give much when you lay on it.
  • Cushion Firm: A firmness that will give a little bit when you lay on it, but still closer to “firm” than anything else.
  • Plush/Medium: A firmness that will be soft on the top, but still offer support deep down.
  • Ultra Plush/Soft: A firmness that will allow you to sink into the mattress while still supporting you.

If you aren’t sure which mattress style is right for you, DreamFoam offers their custom “Ask Chuck” feature which will advise you on just the right mattress for your needs.

Comfort Factor

Reduced motion transfer

A Talalay latex mattress is also great for couples. Why? When your sleeping partner gets in and out of bed or rolls over, the high-density foam significantly reduces the transfer of motion from them to you. So if you sleep next to someone who tosses and turns during the night or if you just want to make sure you are not bothering your partner when you move, a memory foam mattress should be considered. Nothing can be more disruptive to a good night’s sleep than constantly being woken up by a mover and shaker in the bed!

Will This Mattress Last A Long Time?

This will heavily depend on how much it is used. If you put this mattress in a spare bedroom that rarely gets used, it might outlast you! If you use it every night, studies show that it will last, on average 6-10 years. This is a better than average rating for memory foam type mattresses.

You can find out the general lifespan of mattresses here How Long Is A Mattress Good For?

Will this mattress sag?

To be honest, some sagging is expected of all mattresses over their lifetime.

This DreamFoam Mattress considers body indentations between 1 and 1 ½ inches to be normal over the life of your mattress. There is no way around this. No memory foam (or even innerspring mattress) will remain completely sag-free over the course of its life. However, if it should sag below these levels, DreamFoam’s warranty will usually cover it (see your user’s manual for specific details).

Can you flip this mattress?

The DreamFoam Ultimate Dreams Latex Mattress has been  designed from the top down to deliver comfort with its multiple layers:

  • Bamboo cover
  • 3 inches of latex foam
  • 6 inches of high-density foam core.

Because of the specific order of these layers from the top to the bottom of the mattress, the comfort factor won’t be there if you flip this DreamFoam Mattress. We recommend you DO NOT FLIP THIS MATTRESS.

To ensure even wear over the life of your mattress, I do recommend you rotate the mattress from side to side as each season changes. That’s about every 3 months.  By doing this, you are able to reduce the natural sagging that will occur as the mattress forms to fit your unique body and it will help your mattress last as long as possible.

Who Is The DreamFoam Mattress Company?

DreamFoam Mattress is a known and trusted name in the mattress industry. For the last decade they have been producing high-quality, yet affordable mattresses.

DreamFoam Mattress has uniquely partnered with Amazon to offer affordable, high-quality mattresses, often with free or reduced shipping within the United States. DreamFoam Mattress is able to offer such competitive pricing because they sell factory direct to you, avoiding all the costs of a showroom middleman.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I Need A Box Spring With This Mattress?

Well, yes and no.

With this DreamFoam Mattress, you will need a proper bed frame to optimize its functionality and benefit to you. The consequence not supporting this mattress properly will mean your mattress may prematurely sag.

If you choose to use a box spring, DreamFoam recommends (and requires for their warranty) that for queen and king sized beds, you have at least 5 legs on your bed frame, one on each corner and one in the center. To support the box spring itself you need to have at least 5 hardwood slats evenly spaced out between the head and foot of the bed.

However, most experts believe that it is better not to use box springs for a pure memory foam mattress like the DreamFoam Ultimate Dreams Latex Mattress. This is because most box springs do not have the same kind of support that a fully flat or nearly flat surface provides.  If you are not using a box spring, then you will need a foundation that supports the mattress every few inches. This will ensure that no portion of your mattress is insufficiently supported.

Is This Mattress Made In the U.S.A.?

Another great feature of the DreamFoam Mattress company is that all of their products are made in the U.S.A. When you order your mattress you can be sure that you are supporting an American industry and American workers. In addition, when you buy Made in the U.S.A. products, you are also buying quality.

Other companies that outsource their manufacturing to countries outside the U.S. have to ship their mattresses, which opens up the possibility of contamination and damage. And the longer the mattress is wrapped up whilst being transported to the US and to your home, the longer it will smell through that gassing off phase.

What Do You Need To Know About Shipping?

By partnering with Amazon to ship directly to you from the factory, DreamFoam offers 100% free shipping to anywhere within the Continental United States. This mattress weighs 74 pounds so few companies will offer this service for such heavy and cumbersome product to ship.

When the mattress is shipped it will be vacuumed sealed and compressed. This makes it more convenient and less cumbersome to ship overall. For this reason, once you receive your new mattress you will need to let it expand to its proper form over the course of 24 to 48 hours. Once it has expanded, it will hold up its shape and maintain great comfort for you every night.

How Does The DreamFoam Ultimate Dreams Mattress Arrive?

The mattress will arrive in a tall box with your mattress rolled up inside in a vacuum-packed plastic seal. What’s next?

Because DreamFoam Mattress works with Amazon on all their shipping, this mattress comes with a 30-day return policy. After that, DreamFoam’s warranty will cover you for most major problems. You can be sure that if anything goes wrong with the product itself, DreamFoam will back it up.

What Is The Warranty Period?

While you will need to contact DreamFoam Mattress directly to find the exact details of the warranty for your particular model, we can tell you that DreamFoam Mattress offers a 10 year warranty on this mattress.

DreamFoam will cover almost all defects that are related to product failure (but not customer abuse). DreamFoam has an excellent record of backing up their products, which is why they are one of the most trusted names in factory direct mattresses.

Hey there! This is kind of off topic but I need some advice
from an established blog. Is it very difficult to set up your own blog?

I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out
pretty quick. I’m thinking about creating my
own but I’m not sure where to begin. Do you have any ideas or suggestions?
With thanks

Hi there! Thank you for reaching out. I found the technical back-end part of setting up the blog the most challenging part because I’m not technical either. Apart from that, if you are passionate about the topic your blog is about, the rest will just flow from there. To start a blog I would recommend Brittany Lynch’s Launch a Blog course. I found it useful. Hope that helps!
